Warriors
#1
This song is 20 years old this year and I found the tracks I recorded 10 years ago and did a remix...It was always well received in concerts and I'm preaching on the subject tomorrow at church so thought I'd share it. It's dated stylistically.  And the bridge borrows a couple of lines from Sabine Baring-Gould's great old hymn "Onward Christian Soldiers"
Thanks for listening

Warriors
Words Dan Simmons and S. Baring-Gould
Music Dan Simmons

We are soldiers in the army of the Lord
Fighting battles we can’t see
We’ve been called commissioned by the Word
To tear the strongholds down and set men free

We are warriors of the Mighty One
Called to raise the standard of God’s risen Son
Although the battles rage...we call upon His name
Knowing the victory will be won...by the warriors

We’re not fighting flesh but principalities
Rulers of a dark and sinful world
We’ll overcome them when we fight them on our knees
With prayers that rise like a flag unfurled

For the warriors of the Mighty One
Called to raise the standard of God’s risen Son
Although the battles rage...we call upon His name
Knowing the victory will be won...by the warriors

Onward Christian soldiers...marching as to war
With the cross of Jesus...going on before
Raise the royal banner...lift it to the sky
Jesus our deliverer...with the victory draweth nigh

For the warriors of the Mighty One
Called to raise the standard of God’s risen Son
Although the battles rage...we’ll call upon His name
Knowing the victory will be won...by the warriors

Are you willing to put the armor on
Stand for what you know is right
Teach your children that the battle is the Lord’s
He is their sword and shield to stand against the night

As warriors of the Mighty One
Called to raise the standard of God’s risen Son
Although the battles rage...we call upon His name
Knowing the victory will be won...by the warriors...Warriors!

It definitely has that 90's feel- which is fine Smile I can imagine it being sung at the Brownsville Revival. It is a subject that isn't sung in today's p&w music. Great song. I'm curious if it could be modernized in style, to appeal to the current younger generation?

I agree Noah - it does have that 90's feel to it for sure. It could sound really cool if modernised - I would do some awesome atmospheric synths/pads and build the song with some lo-fi loops and toms to give it the feel it needs but in a modern way!

Andy...wish my mind worked like yours...I'm a bit too country, old and unimaginative to think outside my box...but I may experiment a bit...thanks for discussing and offering your opinion...Dan

Ronnie...I am in awe that you are in awe...thank you so much for your comment...I have been trying for 30 years to produce in by little basement room a recording somebody would think was made in a studio...now I know it's a question and not a comment but I'm going to receive it ...this track was made on my Yamaha Tyros 5...I think the best music production keyboard ever made...like most of us I can't afford to go to the studio (as if there were any within a 100 miles of here) so we have to do it ourselves...I have learned that a carpenter or mechanic is only as good as his tools will allow him to be...so I invested in the music by investing in some key tools...good software and a good instrument (if you play)...if the Lord is inspiring what we do, if we're honest with ourselves, if others will be honest with us (CSN) then He will let us minister to others with what we have...I'm glad 'Warriors'  ministered to you...thanks again...Dan
