In search of David Cooley - Christian Songwriter
#1
My band is planning to record a cover version of a christian song written by an individual named David Cooley, associated with Refugee Music. His music is listed on a number of Christian music websites (http://4praise.com/new/artists/7246.htm), but we have been unable to reach him to obtain his permission to release our recording.

We are desperately searching for this Christian songwriter. Would appreciate any leads/information to contact him.

Thank you!

Hi
A few ideas
check the copyright office
http://copyright.gov/

On the column to the left, under RESOURCES, go to Search Copyright records
I did this and he has a bunch of copyrights, read through them , you may find an address.

On 4praise, the website you found him on, scroll down on his works, look at the sheet music and lyrics, you might find something there, if you have not looked at the sheet music yet, this is a good place to start.

You may want to get in touch with Russ Reece, he runs the site but I know he has disabled some of the features, like how you can vote for a song and send the writer a message. But if you contact him, he may have Dave Cooleys info and email address.

last resort, contact HARRY FOX -  https://www.harryfox.com/, they can get you a mechanical license

or EasySong -  http://www.easysonglicensing.com/

But I would try first to contact him. He co-wrote with others, one of his co-writers may also have his info.

This is such a perfect example to all of us as writers to ALWAYS have your contact info available on sheet music, lyrics, etc.

Hope you find him. let me know if this helps.

Thank you for the ideas!

I've tried copyright.gov, but no address is listed with his records.

The website listed on the sheet music, RefugeesMusic.com is no longer in operation.

I've tried contacting via the "Contact Artist" function on 4Praise and freeworshipmusic websites to no avail.

Can you share contact information for Russ Reece?

Hi
I heard back from Russ Reese (Share song)
Unfortunately, the address that he has is also no longer in use.

Some other thoughts:
Have you tried ASCAP or BMI?
Did you ask for a mechanical license from Harry Fox or Easy Song?
That might be a different department then just asking if his work is listed.

try one of the co-writers listed with him at the copyright office?
Done a FACE BOOK search?
posted on other songwriting web sites?

He must have left a trail somewhere......

Hope you can track him down.

I've tried a song search on Harry Fox and Easy Song, but the song is not listed. ASCAP does not offer a directory of songwriters. FB no luck. Still coming up empty. I'm thinking we just release the song, if it gets any attention, I'm sure Mr. Cooley will appear from somewhere.

Is there any chance you can reveal the region of the country he's from, so I can try other avenues?
