Recording a worship band in one day
Posted by: gdball - 02-10-2016, 07:42 PM - Forum: Recording Help and Tips - Replies (8)

I'd written earlier to encourage artist/writers to ask their church worship band to "give them just one day" to record just one song.  If you are like me and can always use a little more encouragement, here's what one such day was like:

http://181.224.138.232/~secondf2/index.p...in-one-day

I made it a link instead of a post because of the photos.   Showing the space was important to me because I think it would really be another layer of impediment (to me at least) if I had to think about transporting recording gear and setting up somewhere like a church.  Odd's are, that plus resolving the electronic gremlins I seem to find any time I make a major move or change, would take more than one day.

Regards,
Greg

  Hello from Minnesota
Posted by: timfink62 - 02-10-2016, 05:41 PM - Forum: Hello My Name is... - Replies (6)

Hi everyone!

My name is Tim Fink. I have been a Christian for many years, but have only recently gone back to writing Christian lyrics (with the tune in my head) about three years ago. I  had written a few songs way back in my college days, though.

I was on some more secular songwriting sites, but I don't think they would relate to or appreciate what I am trying to convey.

Thanks for allowing me to participate.

  Cover Art
Posted by: gdball - 02-10-2016, 03:53 PM - Forum: Whetstone Project - Replies (1)

Beagle pinged me about an issue uploading cover art.  I don't remember if I communicated what the final needs are as far as size and resolution, but it looks like you will have to start by uploading a lower resolution/smaller JPG to the forum for us to look at. We'll ask you to upload a higher res version later to a different place if it is agreed to use it.

FWIW - though the quality control department of our distributor is actually very picky about what they want and how they want it - we have managed on a previous project to turn some wrong format/low resolution personal snapshots of a customer into acceptable album content. So by all means show us what you have!  (And let me thank GIMP2 for saving the day.)

  Jokes!!!
Posted by: lolly101 - 02-08-2016, 01:09 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

I remember the last form had jokes, can we start that back up?

I know this one is silly, but I did come up with it myself.

Q. What did the paint on the wall tell old age?

A. You crack me up!!!

This next one I did not come up with.

A magician was preforming on an ocean liner. But every time he would finish a trick a talking cat yelled, "It's a trick, he's a phony don't believe him!!!" That night a storm came up and everyone had to go on lifeboats. Well, the cat and the magician were put in the same one together. They did not say anything for weeks. They just stared at each other. Finally the cat said, "All right, I can't figure out how you did it. You can bring the ship back now."

Here's one that was put into song form.

A man was talking to God, and he asked,"What's a million years to you?"
God replied, "A second." The man asked, "What's a million dollars to you?"
God replied, "A penny." The man smiled to himself a asked, "May I have a penny?"
God replied, "Yes, Just wait second."

  WONDERFUL WEAKNESS
Posted by: david darnell - 02-07-2016, 01:54 PM - Forum: Lyric Critiques - Replies (5)

                     WONDERFUL WEAKNESS
                                Chorus
I was always strong, not like all the rest             10
Who always seemed to be running to God for help           12
Then life dealt me a hand I could not cope with            11
I did not know it then but it was a gift            11
                           Chorus
I praise God for His mercy, and for his grace
I marvel at his mysteries, and his wondrous ways
And every day I thank him, and I always will
Or “Every day I give thanks time and again…
For the wonderful weakness that led me to Him
                                  V2
When  I see people  who think like I used to               11
It hurts me to think of all they are going through           12
My hope for them is that someday soon they                11
Will  be as weak as me and they too can say              11
                             Chorus
                       Bridge
I never dreamed surrender could so sweetly render
A broken heart so completely healed by God

  "The Lamb"
Posted by: Steve A - 02-07-2016, 01:09 AM - Forum: Song Critiques - Replies (5)

Hey all,

It's great to see the process & progress of songs from their infancy on this Forum.  Especially in the Household of Faith.

Here is a song that I wrote openly on this forum.  After displaying the initial rough draft here and asking for a critique, several people bounced ideas off of me.  One suggestion was from "The Hamster" who brought up a solid point about my initial opening line. The opening line sets the tone for the song, & I could see his crit. was spot on.  So I changed that line & I believe one other in the process.

This is the final version, but I wanted to share it with all, as many people encouraged me through the process as I worked out the kinks.

When it's all said and done, it's all about forgiveness. So, please forgive the voice  Shy
The lyrics and the music are what's important here.

  Interpretation Bother You?
Posted by: WPfontman - 02-05-2016, 04:52 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

Does it bother you when someone does not sing your song the way you wrote it or play it the way you arranged it?  We put a southern edge on almost everything we play. We also have been known to delete verses, add some that we wrote, switch out a word or phrase.

I don't think it would bother me at all, but I wonder if Crowder would want to whip me for adding a verse to Only You or if Brian Johnson would be sick to his stomach when we kick in the Marshall on the chorus of Where You Go I Go.

What are your thoughts?
