I believe with all my heart
Posted by: bbraught - 11-23-2017, 04:45 PM - Forum: Song Critiques - Replies (1)

I "Wrote" this at the keyboard and this is just how it came to me...

I fought the melody of the first verse and it landed somewhere in between two pop piano players with a bit of Keith Green in the piano ideas.

I think from the on set it's a little " dated "  or maybe I should say retro  I think that could be fixed but is a rewrite  in order ?

I chose the words as I played at the keyboard and they are contemplative and affirming my beliefs in Christ , but could this be reworked  and updated both lyrically and musically ?

The fist line has some alliteration problems that are horrible for recording SSSSSSSSSS  too many S's. Smile

And maybe there is a way to allude to the framework laid out in this song with out being so theological? These words mean a lot to me , but is there a way to convey them to someone not so "churched?"

Attached my chord chart if you would like to play along , or think you might want to collaborate on this one.

I believe with all my Heart
V1: You sent your son to save us sinners
And to steal us from the night
You came down in all your glory
And to lead us unto life

Ch1: I believe with all my heart
With all my soul and might
I confess and say again
You are Lord and you are light

V2: On the cross where we were ransomed
He shed his blood to pay the price
In the moment he’s forsaken
He became our path to life

Ch2: I believe with all my heart
With all my soul and might
The resurrection of the dead
He is risen and He is Christ!

You set me ree

Ch2: I believe with all my heart
With all my soul and might
He is Savior He is King
The resurrection and the life!

In this new life that I found
Draw me near to Jesus
Lead me to that Holy ground

  Jesus Rescued Me
Posted by: ronnief63 - 11-20-2017, 07:17 PM - Forum: Song Critiques - Replies (1)

They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, well I've had my head in the sand for a while to the point that I had never heard of Band In A Box. I ordered it, and made a new track for my testimony song.

Jesus Rescued Me

http://www.soundclick.com/ronniefields

I remember a time of smoke filled barrooms,
I used to be part of the band.
And a lot of times I didn't worry about the pay,
except the drink that I held in my hand.
Then driving home that night, not knowing how I got there,
not knowing he had a plan for me.
But you see two thousand years ago, on a hill called Mt. Calvary,
I found out, Jesus rescued me.

Chorus:
I found out that Jesus rescued me,
from sin's prison he has set me free.
I'm not the same old man that I used to be,
I found out that Jesus rescued me.

Now I 'm looking for that time, when he'll split that eastern sky,
and come to take his children home.
Where we'll walk through gates of pearl, onto the streets of gold
where forever, we'll be free to roam.
Where we won't have a care, we'll have a mansion so fair,
with an address like Glory Avenue.
Now I know why he saved me, it's because that he loved me,
I found out that Jesus rescued me.

Repeat Chorus:

Hey friends,
I was trying to use soundclick today, but it seems terribly complicated to me. Soundcloud is much simpler, so I will be using it.
Thanks,

What Words Can't Say

copyright Roy Smith/Neil Sleevi

Composed by: Roy Smith
Words: Neil Sleevi

Verse 1:

O teach my ears to listen, Lord
To learn to know Your voice
Remove my life’s distractions
Its clutter and its noise
So often Lord the things I sweat
Don't have to be so tough

No matter what ... seems I forget
Your presence says enough

Chorus:

Lord I’ve come again to pray
Struggling through yet .....another day

Speechless cause I’ve lost my way
But You can hear what words can’t say

Verse 2:

Train me to hear Your silence, Lord
Above my inner cries
I've been drowning out Your answers
But I’ve come to realize
It can’t be said or be expressed
How love speaks to the lost
Don’t ever let me second guess
Your unspeakable Cross

Chorus

Bridge:

When all I hear is nothing
It may be time for trusting
In Spirit, mind and soul
For
You
may tell me something
In ways
I
don't see coming
When words cannot take hold

Chorus:

Lord I’ve come again to pray
Struggling through yet another day

Speechless cause I’ve lost my way
But You can hear what words can’t say

As we're approaching another Christmas, I wondered about "Glory in the highest". Doesn't this contradict the birth and life of Christ Jesus? One of my few "tunes", https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-sNc-FtVrE.

Children of the King - rough demo
Posted by: damp hamster - 11-16-2017, 06:26 PM - Forum: Song Critiques - Replies (13)

https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13656655

Here is a rough demo that the worship teams at my church can use to learn the song. I recorded at 94 bpm but I think that 90 bpm might make it easier for a congregation to sing along and keep up. Some of the harmony notes aren't quite right because I fed the Voicelive harmonizer a key and scale but no chords. This song is very much in the school of a famous British artist whose name rhymes with "Shelton Hahn" though (of course) my hamster pipes sound nothing like him.

Children of the King

V1

When we were bound in chains
Slaves to sin and fear
Shackled by our misery and pain

A mighty Saviour came
Deliverance drew near
He bore our loss and suffered for our gain    (So...)

Chorus

If we have ears to hear,
We'll celebrate and sing
We are not chained in fear
We're children of the King
The Father we revere
Is God of ev'rything
We are not chained in fear,
We are children of the King

V2

Our God has made a way
For us to be atoned
With royal blood, a King's ransom was paid... we are

Adopted through our faith
In Jesus Christ alone
His righteousness is ours by faith today

Chorus

If we have ears to hear
We'll celebrate and sing
We are not chained in fear
We're children of the King
The Father we revere
Is God of ev'rything
We are not chained in fear
We are children of the King

Bridge

Found when we were broken
Sick and suffering
Ransomed and adopted
We're children of the King (repeat bridge)

Chorus

If we have ears to hear
We'll celebrate and sing
We are not chained in fear
We're children of the King
The Father we revere
Is God of ev'rything
We are not chained in fear
We are family now, so...

Chorus

If we have ears to hear
We'll celebrate and sing
We are not chained in fear
We're children of the King
The Father we revere
Is God of ev'rything
We are not chained in fear
We are children of the King

I thought since I was commenting on some lyrics that were obscure to me - hey I ought to present my own sins for a similar review.  This is intentionally low key, but I don't want it so low key as to be a mystery to the listener.  I am prepared for my comeuppance (do people still say that?) All crits welcome, bring it Smile

Crashing!

on a rough stone shoreline
waves so clear and cold they hurt
Running
their fluid fingers over faults
packed tightly like clay rings of armor

Some felt panic
Some felt not at all
Could those fragile seals start moving?
Some were praying
Some were losing hope
We jump at the first thunder stirring

DAMAGED hearts
Broken spires
Powerless to let go
Raise your face
and drink the sky
Taste the love in the storm.

Honest?
Know you made some choices
whatever stories that were told
Fortress!
You built these curtain walls long ago
but live water slips your defenses

Some felt panic
Some felt not at all
Could those fragile seals start moving?
Some were praying
Some were losing hope
We jump at the first thunder stirring

DAMAGED hearts
Broken spires
Powerless to let go
Raise your face
and drink the sky
Taste the love in the storm.

DAMAGED hearts
bathed in light
see the freedom of the LORD!
Raise your face
and drink the sky
Taste the love in the storm

  Hi All!
Posted by: Gutjan - 11-16-2017, 03:23 AM - Forum: Hello My Name is... - Replies (6)

Hi All,

Just thought I'd say a quick G'day Smile

I remember this group from years ago! It gave me such inspiration and motivation when I was unable to fellowship closely with other Christians (let alone a Christian song writing community, due to living in a pretty isolated location). It's great to reconnect with the group and see God's hand clearly at work through many of the posts!

So I'm a novice at this song writing, but very keen to learn a craft from you all which fills my heart with such joy.

I live in a small community in a place called 'East Arnhem Land' in Australia. It is an incredible place with breathtaking beauty. But it does make it hard to find and work with / learn from, more experienced songwriters and musicians. So I'm very greatful to connect with you all and this group!

Always open to feedback, and will endeavour to prayerfully give honest constructive feedback where / if I can.

Cheers,
Gutjan

  Parodies
Posted by: gruvEdude - 11-15-2017, 09:33 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Before the CSN server crashed, I posted a few lyrics using other's tunes. It seems that now, CSN is a bit pickier

Quote:Please do not use material which is copyrighted by someone else without a license (i.e.; no covers without a mechanical license - if you do a cover, put the mechanical license number in the post).

One began with the title IMAGINE, but I was told that for a parody, I would need some changes. First, can and how does one make parodies be made per the CSN warning? I'll post other parodies if replies seem to say that they are permissible.

Here was what I ended up with:
IMAGINE, TOO

Imagine there's a heaven
It's easy and it’s true
The way to get there
Is Jesus Christ in you
Imagine all the people
All eternity …

Imagine there’s no bullies
It isn't hard to do
And yet that means the bully
Will at no time be you
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a b’liever
We were God’s to choose
I hope someday you'll join us
Like the Lord we will not lose.

Imagine all possessions
Bring glory to God’s Name
All helping one another
A brotherhood the same
Imagine all the people
Living as was planned …

You may say I'm a b’liever
We were God’s to choose
I hope someday you'll join us
Like the Lord we will not lose.
