  Talking to Cows
Posted by: gdball - 03-07-2017, 12:40 PM - Forum: Lyric Critiques - Replies (4)

Okay... its been too long since I posted a work in progress, so Smile

Driving to work past the shrinking fields
Subdivisions growing faster than weeds
I always liked the cows living in peace
Though I can't but help notice the fences

Big grown eyes looked at me, and impulsively I said
I don't envy you this wild weather, or your final end
Those eyes said they lived as they were made

(They said)

-------
My coat's as warm as sunshine and its leather underneath
The sky is my possession and this grass smells so sweet
I know who and whose I am, I know love and tender sounds
And you're the one TALKING TO COWS
--------

As I passed the no left and speed limit signs
and sat there at the slowest traffic light
rushed through some prayers, took a quick bite
Heading to work in my regular pen

Saw my face in the mirror and I asked
When the evening sky turns dark and the last bill is paid
Will I say I lived as I was made?

(They said)

----------
My coat's as warm as sunshine and its leather underneath
The sky is my possession and this grass smells so sweet
I know who and whose I am, I know love and tender sounds
And you're the one TALKING TO COWS
---------

As I motored down the so called freeway
As I motored down the so called freeway
As I and a few thousand too familiar strangers
motored down the so called freeway
Did you ever wonder about the toll?

(They said)

----------
My coat's as warm as sunshine and its leather underneath
The sky is my possession and this grass smells so sweet
I know who and whose I am, I know love and tender sounds
And you're the one TALKING TO COWS
You can learn a lot TALKING TO COWS

  The Last Lonely Leaf
Posted by: Afterdarkness - 03-07-2017, 11:40 AM - Forum: Song Critiques - No Replies

I'm Back! It's been awhile. I don't want to be one of those people who sign up for a forum and then never comeback Smile

I wrote this song as a response to the Syrian Refugee Crisis, but the song applies to any people group who are persecuted.
While not inherently "Christian Music" as labeled by many people, I wrote it from a Christian perspective (thankfully).
The Recording is soft so you may want to put on headphones.

The Last Lonely Leaf

The lyrics -

Can you hear the cries
Of the darkening skies
They howl and thunder
At the love that blunders
Oh they’ve lost it all

Can’t you see the signs
Of the soughing pines
They Whisper the names
Of the dying’ and the lame
Oh they’ve lost it all

The last lonely leaf
Is falling in our frozen world
The old man is walking
Into the west
And he has lost it all

Can you feel the souls
Of the fleeing people
Their silence is strong
Yet they sing a song
Oh they’ve lost it all

Do you know the mind
Of the little girl
Her hopes and her dreams
Torn in two
Oh she has lost it all

The last lonely leaf
Is falling in a frozen world
The old man is walking
Into the west
And he has lost it all

The cold silver bells
Are ringing in our frozen world
The people are fleeing
From the war
Oh they have lost it all

Their hopes and their dreams,
Torn in two.

Yes they have lost it all

  First Time Here
Posted by: DavidW - 03-06-2017, 06:18 PM - Forum: Hello My Name is... - Replies (7)

Smile Hello, my name is David Warren.  I was directed to this forum by an email from CSA.  I joined at the first meeting ever held at the stadium in Arlington Texas.  At that time it was known as Texas Christian Songwriters Association.  I attended the meetings and annual workshops regularly for several years.  We saw a lot of growth and a lot of changes.  I looked forward to every meeting and shared several of my original songs, participating in every activity, excited by the inspiration and motivation of John Hershenberg and so many aspiring song crafters.  It was a joyous season of my life.

One of the members challenged me to learn piano and keyboard in 2010.  He gave me some scales and chords to practice.  I started right away and owe so much to that gentleman.   I'm excited about the progress I have made.  My initial goal was to be able to present my songs and accompany myself on the keyboard.  In a limited way I can do that now, but I'm not slowing down.  I still try to practice every day.

The last time I attended a meeting, it was held in Grapevine at a coffee house.   There were only 5 of us who showed up.  I never went back, partly because it is such a hard drive from where I live in Saginaw.  If you see this post and are still a part of that group please let me know how things are going by now.

I haven't completed any new material in the last few years.  I am working on a song now that has been in an 'almost  finished' state for several years.   I forgot to mention that I'm retired now and enjoying life more than ever before.

  Warriors
Posted by: firesong - 03-04-2017, 07:23 PM - Forum: Song Critiques - Replies (11)

This song is 20 years old this year and I found the tracks I recorded 10 years ago and did a remix...It was always well received in concerts and I'm preaching on the subject tomorrow at church so thought I'd share it. It's dated stylistically.  And the bridge borrows a couple of lines from Sabine Baring-Gould's great old hymn "Onward Christian Soldiers"
Thanks for listening

Warriors
Words Dan Simmons and S. Baring-Gould
Music Dan Simmons

We are soldiers in the army of the Lord
Fighting battles we can’t see
We’ve been called commissioned by the Word
To tear the strongholds down and set men free

We are warriors of the Mighty One
Called to raise the standard of God’s risen Son
Although the battles rage...we call upon His name
Knowing the victory will be won...by the warriors

We’re not fighting flesh but principalities
Rulers of a dark and sinful world
We’ll overcome them when we fight them on our knees
With prayers that rise like a flag unfurled

For the warriors of the Mighty One
Called to raise the standard of God’s risen Son
Although the battles rage...we call upon His name
Knowing the victory will be won...by the warriors

Onward Christian soldiers...marching as to war
With the cross of Jesus...going on before
Raise the royal banner...lift it to the sky
Jesus our deliverer...with the victory draweth nigh

For the warriors of the Mighty One
Called to raise the standard of God’s risen Son
Although the battles rage...we’ll call upon His name
Knowing the victory will be won...by the warriors

Are you willing to put the armor on
Stand for what you know is right
Teach your children that the battle is the Lord’s
He is their sword and shield to stand against the night

As warriors of the Mighty One
Called to raise the standard of God’s risen Son
Although the battles rage...we call upon His name
Knowing the victory will be won...by the warriors...Warriors!

  For Even Me
Posted by: ronnief63 - 03-01-2017, 09:55 PM - Forum: Song Critiques - Replies (4)

I wrote this song watching "Madea Goes To Jail" the play, and there was a part in the play where the jailer was ministering to a teenage girl and told her how much Jesus Loved her and gave his life for her, and she said "You mean, Jesus love even me?" I hope it blesses...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r5m3d1Mll4

For Even Me

Lord You know I've done, some things in my past,
I'm not so proud of, so forgiveness I did ask.
The bible says that you, hear each and every prayer,
the sacrifice you made for me, shows me you really care.

Chorus:
For even me, my sins they had me bound,
even me, I want to stand on Holy Ground.
For even me, your grace has set me free,
I want heaven to be my destiny,
Lord I know you have a love for even me.

I've got loved ones, who've gone on before,
will I see them, when I walk on heaven's shore.
But Lord most of all, I want to see your face,
for it's by your love that I am saved, and by your amazing grace.

Repeat Chorus:

Bridge:
The bible says you see, a little sparrow when it falls,
I know you've had your hand on me, you are the Lord of all.

Repeat Chorus:

Disclaimer!!!
I have never written a song, ever. I have changed the score to many songs and have adapted them to various types of worship experiences. I have stretched, shortened, modified, and altered other works over the years. This is my first attempt at writing from scratch.

2017 Out of the fray

You are I Am
VCVCBCVC

V1
No words can express my deepest regrets when I turned and walked away
I denied you inside and turned to the lies of a world gone astray
Yet you remained still, holy and true and forgave my darkest days
I never did try to understand why, and how you could love me

Chorus
Because I am so astounded, I am so amazed, you are the great “I Am”
You changed my life, you gave me hope, you are the Great “I am”

V2
You called my name, I turned away, you never gave up on me
They planted the seeds, you grew in me, I never was the same
You gave me life, gave me hope, you are the great “I Am”
I can’t deny, you love me so, and gave me brand new heart

Bridge
All Power, all glory, all praise be to you
All Power, all glory, all praise be to you
All Power, all glory, all praise be to you
All Power, all glory, all praise be to you!

  Father

Hey All,
I am currently working on my debut EP and just finished up another track called "Father". It's not released yet but thought I would run it by you guys. It's a bit of a chilled out/gentle/intimate song. It's not mastered yet so might be a little quiet. Listen with headphones for best experience! Here are the lyrics:

https://soundcloud.com/andy-mccann/father/s-44qWI

Father
You are the one that surrounds me
You hold me
I know in Your arms I am home here
You whisper,
and tell me that everything’s alright
I sink in
and let You watch over me all night

And I can’t help but love you
I can’t help but love you
I can’t help but love you

Father
It's you that I trust above all else
You know me
You counted the hairs upon my head
and nothing could ever take me out of your hand
forever I am a child of the Most High

Oh, I’m safe in Your arms,
I am safe, in Your arms

Music Made to Love
Posted by: Noah Westfall - 02-24-2017, 05:34 PM - Forum: Song Critiques - Replies (7)

Sorry to be blowing up the forum with my songs, but here's another one I recorded last night.
Yesterday out of no where, the Lord gave me the guitar melody.  I envision this song being sung on the Bethel worship platform.

https://soundcloud.com/noah-westfall-775...de-to-love

Made To Love

Verse
I was made to worship
I was made to love
I was made to praise you
In all times, good and rough.

Pre-Chorus
With all of my heart and all of my soul
Everything to you I owe
Here I am to offer all I have
You're the one who formed this earth
No one else can quench my thirst
From the day when I first took a breath

Chorus
I was made to Love, love, love you
Love, love, love you
Love, love, love you Lord

Music I Come Before the King
Posted by: Noah Westfall - 02-23-2017, 04:27 PM - Forum: Song Critiques - Replies (4)

Here is another one I wrote the other night.  It is very different from what I usually write/sing.  It does have what you could consider an off/somber? vibe to it.
https://soundcloud.com/noah-westfall-775...e-the-king

I Come Before the King

VERSE 1
I come to worship, You come to fill
I come to rave of your name, You come to heal
I long to tell of my salvation story
You long to show me more of your glory

CHORUS
Down on my knees, I come before the King
Down on my knees, I come before the King

TAG
Hands lifted high, to the heavens I cry
Worthy is the lamb, Worthy is the lamb

TAG 2
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
