  More Than Six Feet Deep
Posted by: tpistilli - 05-05-2017, 01:18 AM - Forum: Song Critiques - Replies (4)

Here's a completely re-recorded version of Six Feet Deep. It's  humorous Christian country song. Let me know what you think. Any help would be appreciated. I think the piano is too loud on 2nd verse.

MORE THAN SIX FEET DEEP

Intro:  D D G A D

Verse 1:
             D
Gotta “COEXIST” bumper sticker
            G                                  D
On the back of my pickup truck
           D
And I pray before eatin’ my dinner.
           A
Go to church when I’m down on my luck
          D
Gotta bobble-headed virgin Mary
            G                                     D
On the dashboard to keep me safe
         D
But I lost a tooth in a fender bender
                 A                            D
When she flew right into my face

Pre Chorus:
  Em           G                A
I try to have all my bases covered
              Em                   G                   A
But I'm finding out that it just ain’t it workin’?

Chorus:
D
What’s it all about

Why do I keep
G
Breathing in and out

Eat, sleep, repeat
              D
'Cause I gotta know when I go
                      A
That it won't be….
                                         D D G A D (Intro)
More than six feet deep

Verse 2:
Gotta hardback Gideon bible
That I stole from the Motel 6
But it's hard to read all those thee's and thou's
My minds just a bit too thick
Gotta double burger and a french fry
For the guy with a cardboard sign
Then I saw him leave about an hour later
In a car way better than mine

Pre Chorus:

  Alive in Me
Posted by: ryansings185 - 05-01-2017, 07:56 PM - Forum: Lyric Critiques - Replies (1)

this is a new song I have been working on about how christ died on the cross and lives in us
i would love any feedback you can give me
Alive in me
Words and music by Ryan Lake
the lyrics are based on Galatians 2:18-21 and Colossians 1:26-27
V1 Christ is alive and lives in me
he gave his life to set us free
free of sin and pain and loss
he gave his life upon the cross

Refrain
Alive in Me Christ In Me
so I may shine in his glory
Alive in me, Christ in me
he gave is life to set us free

V2 I put my faith and hope in Christ
and love through his sacrifice
he gave his life to live in me
and give me faith so I can see

V3 He lives in me that I may give
His love for your heart and mine
with joyful heart that I may live
that I will let his light shine

Refrain
Alive in Me Christ In Me
so I may shine in his glory
Alive in me, Christ in me
he gave is life to set us free

SIGHT UNSEEN

Lyrics by Peter Merz
Music by Chas Evans

(In memory of Michael Lehr)

Is this so odd
Lifting up fervent prayers
To this God I cannot see?
You call me insane
To trust in this Nazarene
And claim He rose n' holds the keys
Holds the keys to death and Hades

CHORUS
Sight Unseen
That's how you believe
Faith opens the door
Though it seems absurd
Sight Unseen
That's how you receive
This Holy Carpenter

You call it defeat
To turn the cheek and to pray
For those who hurt me, my enemies
It's just not earthly
How can I rejoice in suff'rin'
And still call Christ ever-lovin'?
And still call Christ ever-lovin’?

REPEAT CHORUS

BRIDGE
Eyes wide shut, hearts open
That's the only way you'll understand
The love that poured out from Redemption's side
Love that poured out from Redemption's side
When the Holy Carpenter bled and died
Peer out through the eyes of your heart
Watch Salvation come alive
See the eyes of the Nazarene
Have the faith to take Him Sight Unseen

REPEAT CHORUS TWICE

TAG
See true love in the eyes, eyes of the Nazarene
And have faith in Him, Sight Unseen, Sight Unseen…

He's Coming Mighty Soon

Chorus:

Jesus is coming, he's coming mighty soon,
it might be in the morning, maybe in the afternoon.
When he comes we'll know by that trumpet sound,
Then all of the saints of this world will be heavenbound.

Jesus said, I'll go to prepare a place for you,
That where I go you will be going too.
To a mansion on those streets of gold so fair,
you'd better be ready if you want to go up there.

Repeat Chorus:

You might ask what you got to do to go there,
to make your reservation in the air.
Just fall on your knees, ask Jesus, forgive my sins,
then he'll stand at those pearly gates and say enter in.

Repeat Chorus:

All You Can Do Is Pray

all feedback welcome

All You Can Do Is Pray

Verse 1
The situations grim you’re in a tailspin
Running to and fro
You’re not in control
You can’t dictate what will be the outcome
In your heart you know
It’s time to let it go

CHORUS
Sometimes all you can do is pray
Nothing more to do
Nothing more to say
Let it go give it to God
He’ll do a better job
It’s okay cause sometimes
All you can do is pray

Verse 2
The situations dim until you turn to Him
Leave it in His hands
He’s got a better plan
He’ll orchestrate in His way of true love
God is in control
He knows more than you know

CHORUS

BRIDGE
So pray like you’ve never prayed
God will hear your every word
When you find you just can’t speak
He’ll know beyond what you can think
Yeah, great things happen when you pray

CHORUS

  Yesterday and Today

I can't seem to find a melody for this song. Please have at it. Any critique is welcome. Thank you.

                            Yesterday and Today
Vs1
Shiny  things fade, then turn to dust. Old steel gives way to rust
Volcanoes explode, mountains erode
And old stories get retold

Chorus
But the one thing, oh the one thing that never changes, the one thing that doesn't fade away
It was here yesterday and it's still here today. Jesus love!

Vs2
It used to be, just man and wife. Babies born and given life.
Saints and sinners, losers and winners
Conversation at dinner

Chorus
But the one thing, oh the one thing that never changes, the one thing that doesn't fade away
It was here yesterday and it's still here today. Jesus love!

Bridge
Let me tell you about His love, His wonder and His grace
The love in His eyes, the peace on His face
The truth in His hands
More than a man
Son of I Am

Stronger Still (A song about hope)
Posted by: Afterdarkness - 04-26-2017, 09:16 AM - Forum: Song Critiques - No Replies

Stronger Still

oday was cold and dreary
Tomorrow too it seems
But the rain that falls today
Brings the flowers of tomorrow

Fear is a mighty force
It can kill
Hope is stronger still
It will live

The papers on the table
Herald a coming death
In the the throes of lustful sin
Nothing good seems to happen

Fear is a mighty force
It has killed

His cries were forsaken
Waiting for the wrath to come
And from the holes of hell
A new hope springs forth

Sin is a mighty force
It will kill
But love is stronger still
It will live
Love will win

Today was cold and dreary
Tomorrow too it seems
But the Rain that falls today
Brings the flowers of tomorrow

Fear is a mighty force
It will kill
But hope is stronger still
It will live

Hope y'all enjoy

Hey guys,
I am seeking a pianist for one of my songs. This is not a paid position, but you will be considered a collaborator on the project. So, if the song ever makes any money, you will get a share Smile
Once I find out if I have any takers (or rather givers :Smile I will post in Songs. I'm pretty sure the song is already here somewhere, so feel free to take a stab at guessing which one it is Smile
Thanks,
Shannon

This song more or less is along the lines of novelty-pop, I suppose.  The gist of it, what if Jonah and the King Nineveh had cell-phones?  The song is told from the King of Nineveh's P.O.V.

BAD MISSIONARY

Words and Music by Peter Merz

Stepping on toes just a torturing my foes
That's when the phone rang out
Called my mom last week, made it short and sweet
Hello, is anybody there
I have a collect call from Mr. Jonah
Do you accept, I said yes
Why I said yes is a mystery
A mystery to both you and me
I've got home and fire insurance policies
Needing your royal approval
But before I could seal the deal
He told me hey buddy get real
Acts of God are not covered
Guess you're straight out of luck
Jonah laughed, then the line went dead
Guess I'll be shelling out some bucks

Chorus:
Bad missionary, bad missionary
Delighting in pre-arranged acts of doom
Bad missionary, bad missionary
Counting down the days 'til my town's a tomb
Bad missionary, bad missionary
I guess you could say things went boom
Bad missionary, bad missionary
It goes to show never assume...

Next day I had a blast playin' Whack-A-Mole
With all kinds of threats to the throne
Until the phone did its thang, No it still isn't Mom
This just seems oh so wrong
I don't need insurance, good, because mister
That's not why I'm cold-calling you today
Cocky little prankster, I'll play along for now
What you need is a pre-need funeral plan
Isn't there someone else to annoy
Friends, family, or poisonous reptiles
There was a long pause, then he laughed out loud
Well I'd love to stay and good luck
I need to get back to some important work
Sipping those drinks with those funny names
The ones with those silly little umbrellas
Oh and by the way how's your mom

Chorus

Bridge:
Well I traced Jonah's number
Some captain sobbed, he ran from God
Now he is with the fish of the see
Stunned I hung up, what rotten luck
Days passed by when someone shouted
Would you look what Dagon dragged in
This guy who was rife with the stink of fish
And salt water was a shoutin'
No, you're doing it wrong and you'll be destroyed
See I know about these things
I felt something I had never felt before
Conviction right down to my core
So I declared a city-wide fast
Let's hedge our bets and repent
So everyone put on your finest sackcloth
And maybe the Lord will relent

Chorus

Tag:
We didn't bite the big one
Our days were not done after all
No more waterboarding our guests
Or ignoring the golden rule
We didn't bite the big one
Our days were not done after all
The City of Nineveh kept its cool
In the end it worked out for the best
...all because of a bad missionary
