Eternal life it seems is an impossible squeeze

And the rich man dejectedly walked away

So, what does this mean to us of lesser means

If that’s the way it is who can be saved?

(Chorus)

But we may pass through the eye of the needle

And the precarious narrow way we’ll trod

Faith can cast away mountains that stand in our way

And things impossible with man are more than possible with God

(Verse 1)

We cling to what won’t save

Until he sweeps it all away

With the persistent iconoclastic tide
Then when it’s sink or swim

And we might float downstream towards him

We founder tryin’ to find someplace to hide

But humility himself loves us freely

And he’ll heal our apostasy

We’ll put our faith in Him

And He’ll teach us how to swim

And maybe how to walk upon the sea

(Chorus)

(Verse 2)

And we wallow in afflictions

And we swallow our addictions

And Satan bids us, “Embrace futility”

But the dying Christ forbids us

And our living savior bids us.

“Christian, take up that cross and follow me”

And though afflicted we’re not forsaken

With each misstep, we’ll repent and persevere

Walkin’ in his steps

We’ll rehearse his death

As the rehearsal of his resurrection draws near

(Chorus)

(Verse 3)

We have an invitation

To the marriage feast celebration

But we discover we haven’t a thing to wear

These filthy rags won’t do

With holes they’re riddled through

And our nakedness shows through here and there

But the lamb has prepared for everything

And transfigured by his transforming grace

We’ll be wearing white robes glimmering
Reflecting the light of his face

(Chorus)

Lord, why do you insist that each day I visit the precipice of despair

Knowing there’s a part of me that still might take the plunge

Hold my hand as you tell me “That will never be because you love me”

Deliver me from each wretched, manic lunge.

A nice message, the verbiage is somewhat archaic and unwieldy.  You might look at ways to make the wording a bit more conversational in nature and perhaps, a little more show than tell.  Thank you for sharing.

Peter
Thank you, Peter.

Great work so far....but I agree with Peter....many great Gospel images here but .....conversational ...."accessible" to the average 3rd grade listener is what I have been taught.  Keep or sweep!

I like this a lot.... and enjoyed the, what some have described as, archaic words. It was good to read something that feels like your intention is to do the Lords work through music and words, rather than being commercial. Do you also write music?
